I am looking for a used viscous coupler for a 2001 Volvo XC70 that was diagnosed with a bad viscous coupler. Is there any place that has a used unit? If not, how hard is it to remove center driveshaft? Please help! I can barely find any information on used units or how to remove driveshaft. :o

http://www.car-part.com have them, search for "driveshaft, rear" and a listing will come up, some parts will be the rear drive shaft, some will be the viscous coupling. They have parts for about $150+shipping. Probably a good idea to talk with the salvage yard before you buy, even better, find one close to you and go insepct the part when you pick it up.

thanks! I have found some used units on that list that will be cost effective to replace! Site is great, looks like Erie Volvo is the place to get it from.

Not that I found the part I was looking for, how hard is it to replace the unit? Looks like all you have to do is remove exhaust, remove sway bars, then driveshaft, and the finally the VC unit itself. Reverse order should get it in there... unless I am missing some crucial step. I haven't seen any write-ups on this, other than in the how to for replacing VC unit only. If anyone has experience with VC and flange replacement please post, I am strongly considering trying this myself. Thanks!

Remove the drive shaft, and then the VC... no need to remove the exhaust or the sway bar...

there is a very good deal at http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-parts-accessories-Volvo-XC70-1999-2001-viscus-coupler-clutch-W0QQAdIdZ111908914

That's not a deal, especially if you have to ship it into the us. I would sell mine for half that price no problem!

For the part shown, brand new Volvo OEM is $1100 so if it was brand new it could be a good deal for a brand new car, for a car with 130K on it, it doesn't make much sense. $150 sounds much more reasonable.

VADIS says you need to remove the exhaust and the sway bar, but if you can do it without doing so then fine. In theory all you need to do is undo the driveshaft to viscous coupling link, move the driveshaft out of the way then unbolt the viscous coupling. If you can do that without unbolting anything else go for it :)

Sorry, it seems he changed the ad, i just trusted the person who posted the ad initially and said the new one will be 1800CAN and that this has been on the car for only 20000KM...
