Hi everyone,
I'm looking at purchasing a 2002 XC70 with 98,000 kilometers on it (that's about 60,800 miles). The vehicle still has an extended warranty on it for another 2 years or 60,000 kilometers (37,000 miles), whichever comes first. The current owner bought the vehicle as a lease return from the dealer and has the full service history documented. To date, the transmission and AWD system have not caused any problems. From reading other posts on this forum I know that I should be looking for a post-03 model, but do you think that an 02 with the warranty and good service history is worth buying? I would be paying about $13,000 CAD ($10,400 USD), which is a pretty standard price in the market here.

I'd really appreciate any feedback you guys might have.

Thanks.

Price is fair enough for the miles.
Flush the tranny and drive it!
History would say to buy a warranty regardless of how nice it is now.
60K is the mileage where things start to go wrong!

Thats a lot of money for a 2002.

I have read alot as well. Look for an 03 or better. They ironed out a lot of the kinks. Still kinks though...

TO a CANADIAN buyer, (with those miles) it's not.
They sold for a lot more than ours did in the US.

I bought mine on Sep. 2008 in Montreal, MY04 with 94000Km and one year 20000KM extended warranty for 17K CAN. and till now more than 4000 CAN in repairs on extended warranty and 400 CAN i paid myself, not to mention 1500 CAN for tires (winter and 4 season).

Thank you all for your input. The car is in for an inspection now - if it all checks out I'll be the proud owner by the end of the week. I figure I've got another two years before I have to spend any of my own money on repairs so I'll take a chance.

So I got the results of the inspection and the following things need to be repaired and are covered by the extended warranty:
- cracked motor mount
- cracked tranny mount
- separated control arm bushing
- broken fuel door lock
- brake pedal sensor

In addition to the above mentioned items, it needs new pads and rotors on the rear wheels and a new windshield.

Initially I thought these were signs of a vehicle that had not been taken care of, but the owner produced a slew of maintenance records and the thing has been into the dealer for all regular maintenance. The tranny has even been flushed regularly.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again.
