View Full Version : Thermostat for Heated Seats

I read quite a bit here on the heated seats. My wife says the driver seat does not get hot enough. It seems the passenger seat gets warmer faster. I see there is a Vadis upgrade. You would think that the Vadis system would have the same value for both seats. Since one does not get as hot I assume the problem is something else. I see mention of a thermostat. Where exactly is it? Can it shift or fall out of place? is it in the seat?

I assume you are aware that the temperature can be set?

Thanks Willy. I saw that. I was just in to the dealer. They want $55 to set the temperature. They tell me the thermostat on the 2003 is built into the pad. Both pads plug into a controller at the rear of the seat on the bottom. I guess I'll have to look at that.

The stat is built into the lower heater grid and is not physically alterable. If you are having a heat issue with the seat (the busiest seat in the car), chances are good that the grid is on its way out. One day it will just not work period.

I think you are right. The fuse was burnt. I replaced it. Not sure how long it will last. Hopefully thats all it was. But then again why did it burn out????

Moving on to the next issue.....

I've been reading a bit.These cars don't idle perfectly smooth do they? I'm not used to feeling a very faint fibration on the steering wheel when in gear or in neutral and at a stop position only.

Maybe at 100,000 km (60,000 miles) its time for a throttle body cleaning? Possibly a motor mount?

Any thoughts??

It turns out with the fuse in that the seat stays heated even with the switch on "off". Anyone have a schematic for the heated seats. I suspect its the controller under the seat but am no sure how the power to the system is routed.

I had this on MY04 at 100,000 KM and an ETM upgrade (55 CAN) and upper engine mount was done at dealer, now much better.

Thanks Willy!!!

What is what in that diagram? Are the items marked 9/12 and 9/13 the pads? Are 54/24 and 54/25 the switches.?

What is the CCM and CEM?

From the symbols used I suppose 9/16 until 9/19 are the pads,
54/24 en 54/25 should be connectors.
It looks as though 9/12 and 9/13 stand for the whole of the heated seats assemblies.
I will try to check these things tonight.
CEM = Central Electronic Module
CCM = Climate Control Module

Hello Jim,
I can confirm what I wrote in the above answer, I didn't tell any lies :)
9/16 and 9/17 are the backrest heating elements, 9/18 and 9/19 the seat elements.
I will attach the layout connectors in a pdf file.

Thanks Again....I am getting close....so what do you think 7/110 and 7/111 is.

If i understand this circuit right. Power goes to a controller which I think is under the seat. From there the wires go to the switch on the dash to turn the heat on. That dash switch must be powered separately because even with the power seat 15 amp fuse out it still illuminates.

So if I have the switch on the dash set to off and the seat is still heating is it fair to assume the problem is in the controller or would it be the switch? Or i guess could be the wiring.

I have changed the upper, lower right, and torque arm mounts. The torque arm made the biggest difference on driveline clunk, the lower right made the biggest difference on vibration.

According to the 2004 wiring diagram (and it's a good bet this applies to your 2003 as well), 7/110 is the left seat temperature sensor and 7/111 is the right seat temperature sensor.

I think your interpretation of the diagram is correct.
