I recently drove my wifes 2001 XC70 and noticed that the automatic door locks were no longer working. I don't know how long this has been the case as she did not notice it. I also noticed that there is a clicking sound (one click) coming from the drivers door module that occurs every 25 seconds and is accompianied by a slight dimming of the lights in the control buttons on the module. Nothing else happens (doors locking or unlocking ect) when I hear the click. It sounds as if there is a relay that is periodically being energized although nothing happens. All of the controls on the module work as they should.

Two days ago the drivers door module went completely dead. Nothing worked and no lights on the buttons. The other door modules still worked. I checked the 25A fuse for the drivers door module (#36) which was good. I then checked the 15A fuse for the front modules (#27) which was also good. When I replaced the 15A fuse the drivers door module powered up as it was before with everything working and:confused: the clicking noise again. The clicking noise occurs at all times. With the car on and off, in gear and out of gear, with the doors locked and unlocked, standing still and driving down the road at all speeds.

I am wondering if this module can be repaired or if the malfunctioning part could be disabled. Specifically I'm wondering if there is a relay for the auto locking system that could be disconnected. If it can be repaired could anyone tell me how to test it?

Not that it really matters, but could you possibly have meant to say fuse #35 which is the correct position for the LH/Driver power door module? I don't believe that a broken PDM can be repaired and the entire module would likely need to be replaced.

You might first want to inspect the connections from the PDM and check for any loose wires/broken terminals. For that you would need to remove the inside door panel.

Your dealer would also be able to check for any codes that might be stored in the module that might help to determine the problem.

Thanks much for the advice. Yes I was talking about fuse #35. Big fingers on a small keyboard. I will take the PDM out and check connections. I also found some nice instructions with photos for disassembly of the PDM and cleaning of internal contacts and I will try that if connections are good.

Wife car did same thing exc pass door, no mirror, window or door lock. Control Module was about $250 +/- and to program it was another $100. I was told after I complained on another board that if you could get one at a salvage yard it wouldn't need ot be programmed, but don't know for sure.

Let us know if the cleaning contacts worked or not.
