Just ordered my XC70, I added the navigation system but I have a question. I'm stationed in Germany and I have about 9 months left. I ordered the Navigation software for the US but will need the Europe CD map as well, Does anyone know where one can get the European version? The dealer wants $500, I'm sure there is a cheaper, legal version out there. ANy suggestions?

I believe that Volvo Navigation System is "powered" by maps from Navtech (Navigation Technologies). And, according to the Navtech website, that is the truth. But, they refer to the system as RTI. I've noticed that its called RTI in Europe, but VNS in the US. I don't know if there is really any difference, though. Navtech seems to be selling the US maps for $199, but only for selected models. Luckily for us, the V70 is one of the them.

UPDATE: Poking through the Navtech site a bit more, it doesn't look like they are selling Europe maps for Volvos. You might want to call them to verify that.

The folks here who have taken overseas delivery report that they were loaned a European DVD at the factory. The voice doesn't work in the U.S.-spec car but the map and navigation do. How will you be picking up and, later, shipping the car? You may be able to borrow a copy. Good luck.
