Does anyone know the maximum weight I can put in the back of my XC. I am heading over to home depot today to pick up salt for my water system and I am wondering how many bags I can pick up without hurting the car. Each bag is around 40LB. I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks

Well when we move back east this fall, I hauled 100 bottles of wine plus our luggage from North Bay over here to Nova Scotia with no ill-effects. Not sure how much a full bottle of wine weighs but I know we had at least 100 pounds of luggage. I figured I was hauling around 600 pounds total and the car barely settled on the suspension. Didn't really slow me down either.

Cheers,

Bill

On page 139 of the '02 owners manual it states that max. roof load is 100kg (220lb) and that maximum capacity weight is 420kg (930lb).

Or 100 bottles of wine, my tool bag, and my wife's two huge suitcases :D

There is a sticker on one of the door panels that lists the GVWR(Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) for a specific tire size for your vehicle. Add up the weight of your vehicle, passengers, fuel and subtract from the GVWR and you will know how much load you can carry.-Dick

if it helps you out any, i had around 700 lbs of pizza sauce in the back of my 98 a few weeks back. drove from denver to longmont (around 45 miles +/-) on the interstate at speed and it had almost as much go as if it was empty.

the back did sag some, but for a 10 year old car it wasnt too bad.

Sorry, that was for the Roof Load. :o
Cargo load is 420kg like bill stated.

Most I've done is:
1 set of 18" wheels and tires
1 set of 19" wheels
1 set of XC70 coil springs
1 sets of XC90 Calipers and Rotors
1 Intercooler
1 set of anti-sway bars, 16T turbo, and many other XC parts... :D

The only time I wished I had Nivomat suspension....[thumbup]
