2006 xc70, 35k miles and today got the message "low Engine Output". The car then started to buck and then lost all power. Had to get towed to dealer, who was closed. Anyone know what causes this to happen?

This is a complete guess: by chance have you filed up with bad gas or gas with an octane below 87?

Could possibly be a plugged fuel line or fuel pump too...

But I think I read that a bad fuel pump will give out a different message, but I don't know.

Just wish the fuel pumps were as easy to get to on my XC as my other vehicle.

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your problem. Did you try to start the car again after the message? Sometimes these things clear up. I will be interested to know what the dealer finds.

Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure if it was bad gas. Been going to the same place for almost 15 years, but I'll let you know what the dealer has to say.

I hope it's just a loose connector somewhere (MAF maybe?), your XC is pretty low mileage for any thing serious.

Keep us posted, I am interested in what is causing it.

Got it back from the dealer. It was a computer chip gone bad. They replaced it and also installed an updated version of the code.

Hopefully, problem is solved.

It was covered under warrantee, so there was no cost. I believe they called it an ECM module.

Didn't realize this site also gave advice on spelling, although the double-e version is acceptable. Guess Harvard will be asking me to return my Ph.d.

loool, you asked for it:D

warrantee:
one who is legally authorized; one who receives document of warranty

Double E is NOT acceptable, a warranty is spelled warranty, YOU would be the warrantee
Just because you have a Ph.d so what?
I know many brilliant people who still cannot spell.....
