Tailgate Lost Hydraulic

Hello Again. I have a 2002 V70XC. The other day I went to open the tailgate and found that there was no hydraulic lift what so ever. Which also meant that the tailgate will not stay open on its own. I have no problem opening the tailgate. It wasn't in an accident. This all happened spontaneously. Any ideas? Is anyone familiar with the lift mechanism?

It certainly sounds like an issue with the internal gas struts. You would likely need to remove the cargo D-panels in order to gain access to the struts.

Just looking at VADIS at that very issue......looks like the head liner has to drop down for those gas springs to be accessed. I've noticed on mine lately, that the tailgate rises in 3 stages on its own (possibly because of cooler temps affecting the gas charge), but at least it does work and doesn't drift down.
