My key will not remove from the ignition after the car has been put in park.  I have tried to turn the wheel (use to work in my old Accord) to no avail.  Furthermore, when it does release after about a minute it seems completely random.  The cable in the shifter has been replaced (car was sticking in park as well) and I'm not sure if these are related.

I have read one other on the board with the same issue and he utlimately had his xc70 replaced, but I feel I am at my wits end on this one and thus turning to the experts.....

I have been to the volvo dealer (Dyer & Dyer here in Atlanta) 3 times already and they haven't been able to fix the problem.  I thought if I could get some feedback here it might help when I go back to the dealer a little more educated.

Thanks in advance,

Merrill

You're probably talking about this topic (http://xc70.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=2496;hl=ignition)... IMO, three times to the dealer is two times too many! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Is your car new? Shifter and ignition are related since you must put the car on park to be able to remove the key. I'm no technician, but I know from experience working with computers that messing up with swichtes, contacts and relays of these kinds is tricky and usually don't work well, even when you know what you're doing. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

If I were you, I would act the same way as described in fellow member Southern Comfort post. This is not only inconvenient, it can really be a safety hazard! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

Raynald,

Many thanks for the link.  My preference would be for them to fix it rather than going through the major hassle of getting a brand new car.  Just wondering if anyone knew.

Thanks so much.
