Last friday, I signed the contract but the car was ordered already. I asked whether the car could be tracked down or not, "of course", I was was told. But he never found the car.

I've got the answer...

The car dealer called me today. Apparently, from now on, the DSTC can't be added alone, a new sports package come along. This package includes: New steering gear + Xenon + Xenia + Better audio system = 2900CAD (about 1800USD)

Thats not a bad deal...I would go for it. The more sport, the better.

It's the name of new style 16" wheels for the XC70 that are the same design as those on the XC90.

Hi!

I have been following the message board since I ordered my 2004 about three weeks ago. It will be in Edmonton, AB., Canada on April 25th.
They have changed the way you order options for 04, by forcing you to order package groups. Here is what I ordered:

Sport Pkg: 16" Xenia alloy wheels, speed sensitive steering, bi-xenon lights, DSTC, Audio Max

Touring Pkg: laminated side glass, mass movement sensor, level sensor, booster seats, cargo net, rain sensing wipers

Premium Pkg: wood trim, pwr passenger seat, auto dim mirror, homelink.

This car will be replacing my 94 850 Turbo. I was very impressed with the demo XC that the dealer let me have for 2 days.

This site is great for info, please keep up the excellent comments! :

Thanks for the Welcome!

I went with the silver/graphite combination.

I also got the winter package, so besides the rear facing kids seats, bass boost speaker and nav. system, the car is pretty much loaded.

Thanks,

I've also been lurking for awhile. Back In Nov I was ready to purchase an '03 V70T5 5spd until I heard that the MY04 would be introduced in early '03. While waiting to place my order I decided to opt for the XC70 despite my preference for a manual transmission. This will be my 3rd Volvo wagon, having owned a '94 850 and a '98 V70 AWD both with 5 spd.

Looking forward to taking delivery of my black XC70 with sport package and 3rd row seat - dealer tells me that it is due in at the end of April.

I also heard that black was being discontinued for MY04 after I had placed my order in early Feb. Called the dealer today for an update and he confirmed that the car is now on the boat and that it is black w/ taupe interior, as ordered. Guess that black is still available for Cdn cars or perhaps my order was in before the decision was made to discontinue it?

Does anyone know if the sport package and/or the steering option described above will be offered in the US? The price sheet for OSD for MY2004 in the US does not list this package or the steering gear as options, but that may not be updated as I don't think 04 pricing has been announced down here yet...

I think a complete summary would help new folks like me, so I will offer what I know as a starting point.

According to my dealer, and his www.flyvolvo.com website, and the California OSD rep in Irvine who approved my recent OSD order...

XC70 changes for 2004:

* Integrated car key and remote control
* New exterior colors: Ice white (614) Crystal green metallic (456)
* Deleted exterior colors: Polar white (189) and Platinum green metallic (449)
* BiXenon headlight option ($500)

Features for the V70, which are not specifically mentioned for XC70, but are assumed...
* The ZF-steering gear will be standard
* New outer rear view mirrors (common with S80)

OSD Notes:
* No free premium package
* 2004 pricing available in early April, might go up

Other features that I have heard on threads (like this one), but have not confirmed...
* Redesigned cloth headliner and color coordinated seat control panels
* charcoal colored center stack and dash components
* Free maintenance for 30K miles (but people might be getting confused with an offer on 2004 XC90's)
* DSTC included in premium package

hope that helps.

By MARK RECHTIN | Automotive News

LAS VEGAS -- Volvo Cars of North America will include four years or 30,000 miles of maintenance in the purchase price as part of new-vehicle purchases, beginning with the 2004 model year.

The plan is part of a larger strategy to give Volvos more perceived value, which will be countered by "a slight increase" in prices, says Vic Doolan, president of Volvo Cars North America.

Other brands that feature maintenance included in the purchase price across the model line include Jaguar, Lincoln, Saab, Audi and BMW. But with those marques, the maintenance plan lasts the duration of the warranty. Volvo's warranty is 4 years/50,000 miles.

They did confirm the new head liner, integrated key and remote, the new and removed colors, leather shifter with graphite interior only and all of the packages that I previous identified. I forgot to ask about the new mirrors.

DC1 and XC LLOYD:
ZF (Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen) is a german company making transmissions. www.zf.com/ (http://www.zf.com/).

They also make rack and pinion systems for cars like the new stearing in the XC70.

Where Volvo got their old and excellent rack and pinion steering I do not know. Perhaps developped in house or bought from other supplier.

wiz
04-06-2003, 05:46 AM
Their rack & pinion WAS excellent. I bet this is a financial (outsourcing) decision as distinct from a technology decision so I hope the ZF is as good or better than the old system.

I also have been reading posts on this forum as we were deciding about how to replace our 10 yr old Sub Legacy turbo. We went to Fairfield yesterday and ordered an '04 from William. I had gone to Marin Volvo a few months ago to ask about OSD but no one knew anything. I stopped at the Fairfield dealership on the way home from Tahoe and met William and was impreesed, later I read his posts on this sight.
I would like to thank everyone for supplying me with enough knowledge so I could ask the right questions and order my car thinking it will be perfect for us.

Also most of the packages talked about above are for Canada. I was able to get DTSC alone.

Not that it is confirmed avail in the US, but I saw an 04 XC70 in the factory next to a green XC90 that was black.... and it was metallic. Quite stunning. In the Volvo Hall, there is a color chart and samples- the metallic black was a sample as well. It's not in the lit though for the XC70 in English. The headliner and the dash stack did not look much darker.... but I can't confirm that it was the same either. Also, the 04 XC70's I saw with Zenia rims had the "old" mirrors. The new ones on the new improved trimmed S80 are very nice and "elegent looking" ,but the old "larger" ones look better IMO on the XC70- never saw the new mirrors except on an V70 and the S80. The Crystal Green on the XC90 and the XC70 looked quite popular.... but there was far more Silver.

If you want to ask anything specific that I saw in the factory, post a question and I will try to remember. I really tried to pay attention to the components on or being put into the cars rather that simply stare in awe of the stunning visual and audio display from the factory train. Amazing.

I was able to secure a 2004 Volvo XC70 brochure from one of the Bilia shops I visited in Goteborg. It's in Swedish but has some very nice pics of various standard features and accessories. Just let me know -- alternatively the same info maybe obtained online from the Swedish Volvo web site -- don't know as I haven't researched that site as the Swedish is difficult for me to navigate http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I am hearing about a "charcoal" color for some interior parts of the MY2004. Whether that includes the dashboard or not I don't know... Charcoal sounds nice!

Low Tide
04-09-2003, 09:22 AM
Wiz,

Indeed the "Charcoal" is MARGINALLY darker from what I saw in the factory. So is the headliner. It appears closer to the color of VW's dash in the Passat if that helps- that's what comes to mind anyway. Also, on the light colored dashes, the air vents now match color- just like in the XC90. The center stack area remains charcoal- the new charcoal that is. More black in the mix, less gray, still a little sparkle. It looks pretty sharp, but not significantly better. Then again, the previous version didn't bother me, so I am not too sensitive. On the dark interior, everything is uniform. On the light interior, it is more shall we say "harmonious" in a North American sort of way, but loses a little character and flavour of Scandinavian design principles.

I saw a Crystal Green on the XC90 after ordering my car and am very happy with it. I've had a couple of silver cars and wanted something different but as easy to maintain. Crystal Green seems perfect for my needs. Barry have you ever looked at a Silver car and thought how great it looked then noticed how much dirt was on it. It is the darker colors that lose their sparkle with a little bit of dirt and grime.

Art

Barry,

I'd have to agree with Fairfax about lighter colors showing less grime, one of the very reasons why we choose Polar Arctic. Needless to say, I still find myself doing the shameless wash routine once a week whether it needs it or not. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif

I will pick up my '04 XC70 2.5T wednesday 16th (6 more days to wait) and will try to assist with any questions regarding the new model code.

Unfortunately we just got 10 cm of wet snow here in stockholm and I failed to take my old V70 with recently put on summer tires out of the parking lot. I wonder if the AWD system would have helped...

Hopefully this snow will disappear until wednesday, or I will havt to switch the snow tires back on again....
