Been a while since my las post - everything is fine with the xc - runs great BG is going along nicely, lower rad hose had a small leak no biggie.

Only issue I can find is that that (using the cars computer) IM getting about 280 - 300 mile per tank - mostly in town with ac on - if I do a trip I can see it getting better but on the whole 280 -300 is where it goes - I believe thats about 15-16 mpg. Yes, I do put my foot in it every now and then...

How that sound to you all? Car is in fine tune - injectors were removed and cleaned and tested - good air cleaner - tires inflated -I cant think of anything more...

Sounds about right if your doing city driving but these cars get a LOT MORE mileage on a trip.
I just drove one of my 2000 V70R's (more hp) to Boston and back, I averaged about 25 MPG, averaging about 70 MPH (plus or minus)!
I got nearly 450 miles to a tank, however in city driving I get all of 16-17 MPG, TOPS

14/15 in town.
On a trip to Boston last summer I'm sure I got 27/28 averaging 60/65.

In my '00 XC SE I'm getting about 21 mpg in the city with mostly stoplight'n'go traffic. I haven't been able to test out the highway mileage lately, but I can drive from Richmond, VA to Greenville, SC (about 450 some-odd miles) on one full tank with a little left to spare. I don't use my A/C though, just open to sunroof and the rear windows to get some circulation.

I average about 20mpg overall but in city driving it's more like 14/15mpg. On highway much much more but unfortunately I drive about 70% of all my miles in stop and go, city streets and very little on the interstates.

I get about 15 mpg in the city, which sucks because almost all of my driving is city. Otherwise I get about 24 mpg on the highway.

As you see city driving the average is 15-17 mpg. I go up to Maine several times a year and I get 26 - 29 on the wighway doing 70 - 75 mph. Thats with my 00 XC.

I commute ~300 miles/week (64 miles round trip to work), about 80% highway. I'm getting average 23-24 mpg. Unless the hubby drives it, he's a lot heavier on the pedal than I am (and he likes "sport" mode). :)

It's my first Volvo XC Forum post. I've recently bought a 99 XC (Black/Gray) with 137K and i've just reached 140K. So far, I'm getting 17-18 mpg and that's based on 90% or more stop and go driving. I have no idea what I got on my first and only road trip so far because the car started dogging big time about 75 miles into the trip. It seems as if there was some water in the fuel and I haven't had to problem since. but, I haven't travelled 75 miles at 70-75 mph since, either.
Where do I go with a new question. I'd like to put a trailer hitch on to pull a small pop-up camper or a small utility trailer. Doesn anyone have any war stories re hitches and towing?

I would get your problem fixed before you start thinking about hitches, etc.
Personally with a Volvo with 140K I would be VERY hesitent about installing a hitch and towing anything.
Have your tranny checked and serviced, do a tune up, change your fuel filter, etc. before you do anything!

I get 21-22 around town (suburban driving) and about 30 highway. My computer always underestimates my true mileage for some reason.

New mileage information. My last 500 mile trip to NY at a very strict 65 mph and no AC gave me 31.8 mpg. Coming back at 72 mph gave me 28.4. As I mentioned earlier I consistently get between 21-22 around town with the XC.

Here are my tank by tank mileage numbers for every fill-up for the past 7 months...

http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/detail/265426.html

Although it labels my fill-ups in liters, it's really in gallons. In 5,308 miles of all kind of driving since buying the car I've averaged 23.6 mpg with a high tank of 32.8 and a low tank of 17.5 mpg.
