The procedure is demonstrated here:

It requires that you have 16" rims and some original 16" alloys do not clear the caliper until you grind some metal off the caliper, as shown above. Persus and Columbas do not work unless you grind the caliper, Perfos and Pleaids are two rims that are known to accomodate the 302mm rotors.

Despite what IPD or TME says, you don't need 17" rims or even grind down the fins on the caliper to get clearance. Add the Pleaid rims as another OE 16" Volvo rim that works with the 302mm rotor upgrade.

A 5mm spacer will allow almost any 16" wheel to fit over the calipers.
I have a set of Satellites (2000 16" R rims), for sale rather cheap. A little curbed but at this price you can have them refinished any way you like.
Normally that wheel costs over $300 each
Look in the for sale section at my Laser Blue R, those are Satellites

Before I go ahead and order the 12" Rotors/ upgrade I'd like to make sure of a few things:
-Is this upgrade what is installed on the 2003 xc70 models?
-I've got the oem 16" Rims, not sure what they're called though, I'll grind the caliper back a little if I have to/ Install Spacer 5mm.
- The Carrier Bracket/ Calliper bracket, is it essentially a v70 1999-2000 model bracket as per FCP Groton?

Thanks in advance [happy] ,
Jeff

i don't know what the '03 Xc70 has for brakes so i cannot comment.

the caliper brackets that i used is from a '00 v70r - part number 8251319. they are come PAINTED from the factory. they cost me $36 each after a hefty discount from a friendly volvo parts department manager. that was including the $10 core charge on each bracket.

the fcp groton ones(which i have installed on my '98 s70 t5, purchased from fcpgroton back in 2007) are the UK police spec caliper brackets. part number 8602456, they come in an anodized finish and look nicer than the v70r brackets... but in 6 months they will look the same while being covered in brake dust.

long story short... both part numbers will work but the v70r ones are much much cheaper, so save your money and buy the v70r brackets from the volvo dealer.

if you have the same 16" XC SE rims that i have in the picture above, you will not have to grind the caliper or install a spacer.

Will this upgrade then let me install say the akebono brakes for the xc70 12" rotors only? Those brakes are actually listed to fit the xc70 2001 -2007 so as it reads it should. I've spoken to the online store and they're thinking I may have to upgrade the calipers though...

Thanks for all your help

big disclaimer - should be mentioned that i have no way of verifying fitment on '01 and later cars!

verified fitment is for '98-'00 only!
