Hi!
I was wondering if any of you XC drivers has found a neat solution to install an aftermarket GPS navigation system on or at the dash.
I hate loose cables hanging in front of the dashboard and I am looking for a nice cradle system to mount on top or in front of the dashboard. I am also not too fond of the systems wich clip on to the airvents. Has somebody done something with the screen where the original Volvo navigation screen pops out?
pic's welcome!
thanks

Check out Swedespeed...if you have $1K, the solution is available. [thumbup]

I used the dash cubby storage bin to house a foam platform/mount for my Nuvi 350. I plan to upgrade to the Nuvi 760 and will continue to use the current location. Since the cradle is hardwired to the connector behind the 12V aux dash outlet, there are no hanging cables in sight. I can simply remove the Nuvi from the holder if I need to transfer it to another vehicle plus I can easily pull the entire foam mount from the cubby in a matter of seconds.

Cost of materials for me was approx $35 US for a ProClip adapter and 12V socket adapter. The foam and plastic for the faceplate were items that I previously had lying around.
More details here (http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8573&highlight=garmin).

thanks for the suggestions but...
I am thinking of something less expensive than 1k$ and
the dash cubby storage is already in use for my parrot bluetooth telephone device.
I am also thinking of installing something like this vdo PN 6000

Any idea's or experiences on this?

Have you considered the portable Garmin system from Volvo?

I don't think you can buy that Garmin Nuvi in Belgium or the Netherlands. Take a look at www.gpshop.be, they have allmost every navigationdevice that is available in the Benelux...

They do have the Garmin 760 mentioned a few posts below, but I think it's a bit too expensive (370 euro) and I don't now where to buy the holder for on the dashboard you can see in that picture.

The complete Volvo specific Garmin system is only available through Volvo dealerships. From what I understand, it can be purchased at dealers across Europe and North America.

The link below to the Volvo Belgium 'Into The Green' page, provides some info with respect to the Garmin system. To get there, click on the Volvo accessories tab. At 599 euros installed, it's not exactly pocket change.
