Getting close to the first 1,000 (mostly highway) miles on my XC70. I'm still getting myself adjusted to the handling of the car, after owning 2 Japanese cars for the last 11 years. One of which being a 5 speed manual Honda Civic. That little car was very zippy and handled really well on the road. The XC70 handling feels completely different in every aspect.

Anyway, one thing I found myself still not comfortable with is the brake pedal on the XC. There are 2 issues I have:

1) The brake pedal seems to be set too high. I almost feel like I need to completely lift my foot off the gas pedal to reach the brake pedal, as oppose to keeping the heel on the floor while switching from gas to brake.

2) Probably related to the first issue, I feel that there's a longer than usual travel of the brake pedal when you first press on it before it begins to react to the braking force.

Does anyone share similar impression? Also, is it possible to adjust the resting height of the brake pedal to be a little bit lower? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Seriously, after owning a Honda Accord and a Toyota Camry, I think you're right about the relative high distance between the gas and the brake pedal and the somewhat long travel. Being relatively short (5'7"), I like my seat to be at maximum height and I have to bend my knee quite a bit... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif At first, I found it difficult to brake smoothly. It's maybe the way Volvo thinks about safety, setting both pedals on different levels in order to avoid hitting inadvertently the wrong one. I don't think it's ajustable though. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I do not have a problem with the height, but do find the closeness to the gas pedal a pain!

Try driving a Subaru with a manual transmission. The pedals are so tiny and close together that it's tough to hit the brake without getting some clutch and throttle with it. Really, really tight there.
