Carpet on tail gate

I Need To Get The Tail Gate Open And Have To Remove The Carpet On It. Is There Anyway To Do It Without Damageing It? 2002 Cx 70

If you mean the interior panel, yes there is. Remove the two screws in the hand wells on the bottom of the gate. There are eight plastic push pins that hold it to the gate. You can see them in the picture below (they're yellow). Loosen the bottom corners first, then yank the panel off.

On edit: I just realized you might not be able to open your tailgate? If not, you can probably work the panel loose from the top, but it'll probably put up a fight since it's pretty stiff. You should be able to bend it enough to get your arm in there without hurting it, though.
