Has anybody here put spacer on to give our XC a wider look? If so got pics?

With 17" XC90 wheels and 30mm spacers in the back.

I put 17x8 46mm offset Pegasus on vs the stock 16x7 49mm stock. It made the sidewall of the 235 tires about flush with the outer edge of the wheel well cladding. The extra 3mm plus the extra width the tire can open up due to the increased wheel width is just about too much for me visually. But I am sensitive to the issue because of all the rednecks around here who put monster truck wheels with ridiculously wrong offsets on their trucks, and ricers who do the same to their cars.

As far as suspension effects, the centerline of the tire only moves out 3mm, which should be insignificant as far as leverage and eccentric load on the bearing. It could be argued that the width of the wider tire patch added to that 3mm also affects the leverage. I am telling myself it's a coincidence, but I lost a wheel bearing at 60K miles and I swear I hear another one on its way. It's gotta be a fluke, right? Right?

is the rear stock number narrower then the front?

The track width (width between tread centerline of tires on same axle) is quite a bit narrower on the rear. It gives an XC70 one of its loveably odd looking characteristics :) Putting wider wheels/tires on accentuates the look of the difference, because it puts the front tire right at the lip of the wheel well for a close benchmark reference, but the rear tire still sits inward quite a bit on the rear. What ifnt420 did with spacers to widen just the rear track is pretty clever. I would copy it if I weren't aready paranoid about suspension effects.

I think I will where can you get spacers?

www.ipdusa.com (http://www.ipdusa.com) They are good guys. Hey inft420, 30mm is way past the shoulder on the hub which keeps the wheel hubcentric. What does the spacer do for that issue?

This is similar to what the 30mm spacer looks like, you'll need another set of Studs/Lug nuts to secure it first onto the car, then use the factory Lug Bolts to secure the wheels.
Similar to the older Porsche's factory setup.

I had 18x8 Pegs with 15mm spacers on the XC for about 80,000km, and now 19x8.5 wheels with 15mm spacers for about 20,000km; so far no problems with the wheel bearings which has been on the XC for 220,000km.
Keeping my fingers crossed. :D

I would be very hesitent about 30mm spcers and the possible strain on the wheel bearings.
Many R owners (including myself) run 5 mm and 10 mm but 30 mm  is too much, IMO

I would defintly worry about the wheelbearings if using spacers as JRL says.
