View Full Version : Leaking cam seal

Changed the timing belt last weekend and also traced down a pretty good sized oil leak to the intake cam seal at the gear end.

Not wanting to split the head I was hoping that by removing the gear I could then slide the seal on (ie: hoping there was no flange) and reassemble. Lucky for me I have an extra engine laying around that is disassembled. Loosened the three bolts and removed the gear, no flange the seal slides right on!! The surprise was the "holes" for the three bolts are not holes, but slots! There is NO key, index pin, or marks to align the gear to the cam. The lesson is if you pull this gear you'd better mark it well.

So for no extra charge you actually have an adjustable cam.

I'll try to take some photos and post of the seal change. Looking at my spare engine with 88K on it the seal is hard as a rock and looks like it was leaking a little too.
