Lucky me, my XC's rear diff has a crack in it and I'm leaking fluid... it slowly leaks, then drips onto the exhaust and burns...So basically I thought the worse with my 2 toddlers in the car and the tranny blowing...I first went to the dealer and he quoted me $3500 for a fix... whaaaaaat!!!!! .I nearly fainted. I took it to my mechanic he said that he would refill it and not to worry, a rarity yes esp on a one piece diff. but he said just to keep it filled and seeing its such a heavy fluid in the winter it should leak less. So here we are....does anyone else have a leak problem or am I the only one?

not sure if you can see the crack, but I would try jb weld. its a 5-6$ tube (actually two tubes). you mix them and it makes a paste and its like a weld. buy that, mix them, smeer it over the crack making sure it gets in there and let it dry. if the crack is that small it should fix it.

Apparently the crack is near a seal and unable to use a weld compound...

JB WELD DOENST GENERATE ANY HEAT OR ANYTHING.
its in a tube, try it, its cheap and may work.
