Hey guys,

It looks like the old Scorpions have finally been replaced. Do ya'll know what model the new 16" Continental tires are? For those of you who have had the privilege of driving the 2008, how do the tires feel?

Thanks!

I just picked up my new '08 yesterday. The tires are 215 65 R16 Conti 4x4 Contact. Like the car so far. it is a head turner as there are not too many around yet. Ruby red, Convenience package, Climate package, Premium package and BLIS.

Ruby Red just like my 06. What color interior came with that exterior color? As I stated in a previous post, it looks like you can get a 17 inch wheel option, which also comes with Continental tires.

It has the cream colored interior. With a mocha colored dash. I like the combination.

I have an 02 XC. I had scorpians when purchasing the car. several years ago I switched to the contis. I love them. Less road noise. great winter traction. i know the scorpians changed since then, but the contis are a great tire!!!

Not familiar with that model Conti, but I've had bad experience with Contis in the past and go out of my way to avoid 'em. I recently ordered an 08 XC70 and chose the 17" wheels, largely to get the Pirellis. Felt the $550 extra was almost justified by the tires.

The 2008 XC70's I have seen at the dealer with the 17" wheel option also come with Contis.

I'm considering ordering the BLIS (Blind Spot Info System) option but hesitate before getting some more info. Have not found a car with this option at local dealership so have not been able to check it out.
However, my sales person told me he found it distracting and annoying at first but eventually he suspected one would get used to it and therefore would not present an issue in this regard. What have others found wrt this aspect of BLIS ? He especially pointed out the BLIS orange indicators will flash repeatedly when on the freeway with cars on either side of the car!

The other question I have is - does BLIS do a good job for covering the blind spots on either side of the car? Is BLIS in fact doing a good job and providing the necessary enhanced safety.

Thanks....

I have not driven a BLIS vehicle but would NOT order one until I did drive one in the conditions it will be used.
I wonder if BLIS can be turned OFF?
I remember wanting to order the Night Vision option but none were available to order. Night Vision was never actually sold by Volvo. Kind of makes you wonder?-Dick

Dick: BLIS can be disabled with a button push. :)

Are these 17" rims the Sargas option rims that are priced at $550 ? I've been lead to believe the Sargas 17" are Pirelli STRs!

GlennF:
I don't know if the rims I saw were the Sargas option. Perhaps they do come with Pirelli STRs. However I would think that if Volvo switched tire suppliers, all cars would come with the same brand of tire.

Glen, My 08 has Conti's with the 17" option, they are way better than the Pirelli's o had on my 04 and 02

xc70-2004 -- Conti 4x4 Contact 215/65R16 TL 98 H (M&S All Season)
since April 06. I'm very happy with them. Just need to have the
proper air pressure. Very quiet, very good in rain and snow.

drove an 08 with BLIS. The dealer actually said he personally thought it was not worth it and because he drove a couple other cars the last thing he'd want is to get accustomed to not looking over his shoulder in non-blis cars. And since he felt like he should always anyway, he thinks it is not worth it. I drove for about an hour with it in heavy traffic and found it mildly interesting, but wouldn't order it.

my car is equipped with Scorpio (of course...) and even if it's seems to be a not so bad tire, I wrote some comment about the Goog Year Wrangler HP which seems to be one of the best tire (mix type) for this type of vehicles.

Do some of you have experience in snow and rain concitions with this Good year ?

Other point with Scorpio, i made 25000 Kms and the front one's nearly need to be changed, it's a bit early for me.... i expected to run at leaast 35000 to 40000 kms.
