--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I couldnt believe it either, in Ontario Canada. Owner drove all highway 200km each day to work, full dealer serviced, he is actually on a daily morning show here in Toronto. My 740 went for well over 400k, have a 96 850 now with 240k which runs like a top, so i figured, hey what the hell it is a volvo and it is a 2003 how bad can it get. plus i got it for less thank 10k, etested and safetied.

Anyhow, car is clean runs fine, picking it up on MOnday. Was wondering if it is possible to get the navigation for it, and if so, where and how? is all the wiring there for it although the car didnt come with it? Any suggestions, ideas?

anythign i should know or watch out about these cars? have a friend who is a volvo mechanic, he is a frien of a friend, he is like dont worry about it, motor/tranny/awd system are very reliable in those cars. even he hasnt seen a 2003 with 255k.

opinions> advise?
from past volvo experiences and from what i haev been reading they seem pretty reliable.

Wow! No good advice/suggestions from me, just admiration. My 2002 XC70 has done ±136K. mostly city work. Once a year we target the dust roads and sand dunes of the Kalahari desert, and would be ecstatics to get your kind of distance! Love kicking sand in the face of the local lads in their farm trucks.
Here's wishing you many more!

Navigation is a factory installed option so you may be out of luck - there are a lot of other good clip-on versions however that offer frequent free firmware and map updates.

As for what to watch out for? Bearings. Joints. Bout it. If you go to the carpoint website, the 2003 is a squeaky clean model.

It seems to me that an aftermarket navigation system is the better choice, anyway. Not as nicely integrated, but you can move it from car to car.

My 2001 model is now at 236,700km. Runs perfectly and everything is smooth. Just yesterday had someone guess the mileage. He estimated 50K, max 60K. Then I showed him. :)

PJ810: Good to hear your car is still running strong with 147K Miles on it. I purchased a 2001 XC used with about 115K miles on it. How has your car held up? What have been the major issues? How is the tranmission, any issues? Thanks..

my 2001 has 203,000 miles - so that's ~327,000 kilometers - so where is my 300K badge? Anyway, she runs like a champ and not even thinkning about replacing her till she reachs 300,000 plus miles (~483,000 kilometers).

how are the trannies/awd system/motor reliability? are these car prone to anything common? seems like all around they are very reliable. this car is confirmed all highway kilometers, as teh guy i am buying it off is a tv personality and drives 100km each day to work.

She runs like new. Checked this morning as I was driving into work. 236880km, which is 147222 miles.

The drivetrain is very smooth. A friend who has a 2005 Subaru (top of the line) with about 50K kms on it drove my car and commented on how smooth and 'new' the car felt.

Other than a recent MAJOR service incl timing belt, I've had some work done on the front suspension. Broken sway bar, and while they were at it, had a lot of minor things replaced. Nothing that couldn't have waited a few more months, but it's nice to have it all sorted.

Brakes: machined discs, new pads, and just recently a new mastercylinder (they cost a lot!).

The AWD unit was leaking according to my mechanic. Couple of hours work to rectify it. Not sure if that was necessary. She drove fine before, and drives fine now. Again, something that probably could have been delayed but I want my car to be perfect - more important especially with this kind of mileage on it.

Inside the car presents almost like new. Outside as well. I love it and will continue to look after it as if I just forked out for a brand new XC70.

That's a worry. Sounds like there might be something seriously wrong. Not that I have driven a tank, but I'd imagine the Volvo should feel a little more nimble, substantially quicker and less rattly in the wheels. Visibility should also be slightly more comprehensive. :D

I dont mean a tank as in "slow", i mean it in the sense that I feel very secure and the car is very solid. when I giver a little bit here and there she picks up and goes pretty good, cant complain about that. I woudl have to assume it drives like almost brand new as its pretty f99ckign smooth, and cant imagine a new one driving much different.
