Hi all, this past weekend while doing my fall maintenance and cleaning I noticed that my front control arm bushings showed signs of wear. As well I noticed that I could move the outer tie rod quite easily in a twisting motion. I have noticed this in the past and just thought that it was normal. I took it into the dealer for a bushing job and found out that the inner tie rods were in the worst shape they have ever seen. I had no real symptoms other than maybe a slight vibration at 80-90 km/h, no abnormal tire wear, nothing that raised my alarm bell. Once repaired, what a difference in handling, the car feels almost new again.
I have 138500 kms on my 2002 V70XC, for anyone with mileage in this area I would suggest inspecting your front end components. The total cost for all four front bushings and two inner tie rods plus a four wheel alignment was around $1091.00 CDN.
Bushings, 4 - $162.85
Labor on bushings, 3.5 hrs, total $339.50
Inner tie rods for 2, $298.06
Labor for tie rods, 2 hrs, $194.00
4 wheel alignment, 94.95
Later, KC
