XC70 2007 reliable as 87 240GL

Hello everyone,

This is my first thread on this forum.

I am in the process of buying a 2007 XC70; I am hoping that this vehicle will be as reliable as my 87' 240 GL.

I drove my 240GL 300,000 miles; the vehicle still has its engine as it came fron the factory; all I replaced on that engine was a water pump, plus the obvious (spark plugs, belts, battery ETC.)

Those of you who know today's volvo, do you think that a 2007 XC70 could be as good as an 87' 240GL?

The dealer wants 36,000.00 for the XC70; the car comes with adventure package; is that a good price?

Welcome to this community, I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I do, lots of cool people in here.

As far as the XC rate against the 240 is difficult to answer. In the 80s cars were less complicated therefore had less parts in it...(especially electronic instruments and sensors), that is the major problem for me because I used to do all servicing on the car and with basic mechanic knowledge I could replace a lot of components. Now , I do not do anything anymore , because of Vadis, the Bus and the ECU...(You really need the software to diagnose a faulty sensor or valve)
So to answer your question, I think that the XC is a much better car , but , it will not be as cheap to run than the 240...

btw, I really like my XC, it is worth every penny.
Pricewise, Ireland cars are extremely expensive I paid mine €68,000 (which is about US$ 94000 or CAN$98500)

You should be able to get it for a bit less and NO it will not be as reliable, buy the extended warranty
