2005 XC 90 V8 Tire Wear - Recommendations?

I have a 2005 XC 90 V8 with approximately 22,000 miles. The OEM Michelin tires are, unfortunately, not holding up well. Despite regular checking of inflation pressures, rotations, etc. the tires are ready for replacement soon. My question: is there a better option (perhaps better suited to the XC 90) than the 'stock' Michelin tires? Have any other forum members experienced this issue? It seems that modern tires should, with attentive maintenance, hold up for more than 22,000 miles...
