I am going through the records of the 2001 xc70 I will be getting in Aug. and at 50,000 miles it had a transmission valve replaced. What is that and should I look for to help find the other problems of the transmission. The car was in the family and had excepitional care. 85,000 miles and three sway bar bushings later it still runs excellent. No transmission problems after the "Valve" was taken care of. What else should I look out for in the service records? What is the valve is in the trans?
I am aware of the trans and swaybar problems.
If the trans is working good should I do anything to keep it that way or just wait for it to fail before I work on it?

Just flush it every 30000 miles with 3309. IPD sells a flush kit and spare o-ring. Check the upper engine mount next to the turbo tube because they fail too.

Thanks for your time Ragman...
How many quarts should I get to flush the trans correctly?

I don't know if IPD sells the transmission fluid. Just the flush kit but you could always ask. I bought fluid from another outfit and they sell by the case. Use the search feature on this site and look for 3309 ATF. You might find a vendor listed.

Go to a Toyota dealership and get 16 litres of Type IV trans oil. It's the same stuff at 1/5th what Volvo will want !!
