Default How long would a 01 X/C float, before it sank?

I know this sounds stupid.... But I had a nightmare last nite, I was going to a new clients house and made a wrong turn. My car ended up sliding down a steep slick slope into a small pond. For some reason it was a easy landing and the car went into the pond backend first. Now mind you this is a dream, the car was still running and hadn't started sinking and no water was coming inside. I put the car in low and pressed the gas pedal an the car started moving forward, I turned the wheel and went out to the middle of the pond. I looked around for a sandy beach and aimed for it. I applied full throttle and went for it. I felt like the commander of the West Viriginia during Pearl Harbor, I got a good wake going and went full speed ahead and landed with a thud on the beach. I put the car into W and pulled off the beach found the road and went to the clients house. Then I woke up...... That was a wild dream....

Talking eeeewww

OMG, that must mean something and I can't think what water means, it has something to do with you wanting your mother again for comfort, ie in the womb surrounded by water. The travel means you are stuck in a rut in your life and want to escape.

Make of that what you want!!

I would think the sinking time would be much the same time as any other 2 ton car, mind you i am intrigued as to how to moved in the water, did you have an OB engine on the back or underneath

I agree with AWD*V70XC, weird dream.

I always wondered if car manufacturers could place a sensor that would detect if the car is in water and deploy the airbags. Now I know airbags deflate just as soon as they inflate, but they could hold air, atleast enough to slow the car from sinking so quickly. Just a thought...

FWIW: I think you need those bags to deflate so you can get your seatbelt undone & be ready to open the car door after the interior has filled with water. Air bags that stayed inflated would interfere with gathering courage for the great escape.....

Default Floating Volvo

Nope I am very happy in my life..... Under alot of pressure to make sure that everyone gets to the airport on time and back. My Volvo and I have bonded very well, she is a good car and would take care of me if we ever became a ship in the water..... Not sure how she powered herself in the water, maybe the 4 wheels spinning kept her going straight and the tow hitch on the back acted as a rudder.....

The more I think about it, all I can think of is Rondey Dangerfield in Caddy shack with his big boat sinking Judge Smails little Dingy.......

Once again a Volvo saves a life

Since it continued to run I would imagine you could open the sunroof, if you have one, to escape since legend has it that one can't open the doors when they are partially under water.

Default Floating Cross Countrys

Isn't the underneath of this car pretty tight. I think it would float for a while, it's a sealed chassis, no frame unibody and there are covers all over the place. I bet it would float for at least 20 minutes or so.....
