Default Not sure if this picture will help...

But check it out...I've circled the drain hole, with the drain plug removed. Might be able to give you some bearings as to where it is.

That picture was taken with me laying on my back, feet towards the back of the car, head towards the front.

However, I have a 01 XC. Not sure if it is the same for you...

    Hello again,
Find the filter and you find the drain plug, it is within a (firm) hands width
from the filter housing, to the center and back of the oil pan.
I can't read the future, but I guess you will also want to know the torques
    for the filter and plug
Oil filter housing: 25Nm or 18.5lbf-ft
    Oil plug: 35Nm or 25.8lbf-ft

    Default Changing Oil/Filter

I've always changed my own oil. Now that I have a Volvo I want to do the same but fear it may not be as simple as pulling the plug and changing the filter. Is there anything else that needs to be done? Is there any computer updates, codes, etc. that the dealer would do that requires me bringing it to them? I called and they want $60 for a change!

    I have a 2002 XC70.

It is as simple as pulling the plug and changing the filter!
However, you best get a wrench such as this one:
    http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.as...292&RootID=629
The filter is delivered as a cartridge plus a new o-ring, I don't
think a new gasket ring for the plug is included.
Removing the engine protection plate is no problem either.
Tip: to keep things clean you can wrap the filter housing in a
plastic bag after releasing the tention. Screw off by hand and
catch most oil in the bag!
If you don't clean the filter housing of all oil, it may "sweat"
somewhat giving the false impression you have a leak.
    Tighten to torques as mentioned.

It is a golden tip indeed. To tell the truth: it comes from one of
the members here (but I forgot who it was )
One condition for success: check the bag for leaks before you procede

Make sure you get a new aluminum crush washer for the drain plug or it WILL LEAK!!! Buy a few from ipd when you buy your filter wrench.
