This lowering of fluid levels is typical IMO of new cars. It's a 'new car' symptom and one to at least be aware of.
Not only should one check the power steering fluid level but also the coolant level as this can also suddenly lower during the *first* few 100 miles of travel.
It amazes me that the low power steering level doesn't register a display readout to warn the driver -- much like for low coolant level.
IMO any abnormal mechanical-sounding noises should be looked into ASAP.
