a well-intentioned neighbor wrapped a chain around this part to pull me out of the snow and bent it yesterday. I'm seeing different names on the internet for this part. (stray arm, stay arm, sway bar)

I need to replace it as my car is no longer steering and feels like the back is fishtailing and listing to the right.

Next time use the towing eye in your toolkit and screw it into the socket under the cover in the bumper - Just buy 1 arm, unless there is considerable salt damage/corrosion on the bolts

One thing to also note, is that the inner mounting bolt (i.e. the one toward the center of the car) for these links is eccentric and used to adjust rear toe. So when you change out the link, you will need to have the car aligned unless you take very careful measurements. One other thing is that if you have fairly high mileage, the bushes might need to be replaced. I just did mine on my R at 120K miles but its the first time I've done any on a P2 (both my XCs had higher miles BTW). Not sure if it was the roads or the wider tires on the R but the bushes (especially the inners) where pretty ragged. Could have also been the result of the bolts seizing to the inner bush sleeves and then being turned during an alignment which I had done last summer. In any event, worth taking a look as they are fairly cheap and easy to replace.

    Cheers,
