Default Ignition key, steering lock, what to do next?

I read as many forum threads as I could. Looking for advice on what to do next. I have a 2004 XC70. The key wouldn't turn and the steering wheel was locked.

So I cut open the steering wheel lock mechanism and can now turn the wheel. Also learned how to start car and override the shifter so I could drive. PITA.

I still can't turn the key and therefore can't shift normally.

    1. Is it the actual ignition tumbler action itself that is failing me? If so, does that mean replace the whole assembly?
    2. Can I go to a wrecker and get a replacement part of any kind to solve my problem?

    Thanks.

Thanks. I still can't get the key to turn. Will try "massaging" the internal bits and see if that works.

Did you get air the bottom plate off? Look up in there and see if anything is jammed or broken off.
