    Default Auto stop-start function

I recently test drove a 2018 XC60. I found the auto stop-start distracting and annoying. Can it be disabled? What happens to heat and AC when engine is off?

Here's a link to the owners manual - Turn stop/start off temporarily is easy (button push), don't see a mention for permanent turn off

Since the engine powers the AC compressor, when the engine shuts off there is no cooling during engine stops. And, since the water pump inside the engine pumps hot water to the heater, heat transfer stops. I see in the Owner's manual where, in a concession to passenger compartment temp. control, the auto-engind stop is inhibited for ambient temps > 86F, and < 26F. I don't like this stop-start feature. It violates 75 years of automotive design. It undercuts Volvo's environmental control design elegance. It shows what lies ahead if unrealistic CAFE standards are pushed on the industry too fast. In the US, there is a DOT Comment Period of 2025 CAFE gas mileage standards.
