Can a 2006 xc70 be fitted with a navigation system? I know they started using them in 2007+ but I would like one in mine.
A really nice Garmin, with live traffic updates and a beautiful high resolution screen, is $250.
There were some 2006 Volvos with factory navigation, but it's expensive, you've got to replace dashboard parts, and it won't be as up to date as that Garmin...

I've done what Astro suggests by just buying a decent Garmin and it is a good workable way to go. But I have to say, it would be nice to have a decent in-dash sat-nav that would allow the whole driver's view to be neat and tidy. A Garmin hanging from a mount spit-stuck to the inside of the windshield with the power wire hanging down just drives me crazy and it was one of the points that last summer got me looking at Audis before I ended up buying my R. It ended up that 300HP, big brakes, and 95% tech/parts-sharing with my XC overcame my OC attitudes toward add-on sat-nav.
Cheers,
Bill

IMO - the easiest and cheapest all around solution is an aftermarket radio
You can get one with Navigation built it OR get one that can run phone apps - then you can use Google Maps, WAZE etc from the phone and view on the radio screen.
My unit was under $300 and runs iPhone apps with an adapter cable
Found the installation kit on Ebay that has the factory rubberized finish so it all matches.
I even installed a backup camera which was one of the main reasons I wanted a double din radio.
LOTS of options and features to be gained with an aftermarket unit - Shop Crutchfield - easy site to navigate and read reviews to at least figure out if its a direction you'd consider.
I bought a Garmin vent mount and clipped to one of the center console vents. Not perfect, not as nice as a built in, but quite convenient, located ideally for ergonomics (reach) and visibility. Right where the factory has a GPS in both my Mercedes and my Toyota.

Honestly, the best thing you can use now is Waze or a similar app. It gives you up to the second (yes) updates on traffic, routes and the 5-0 when driving. At times, I do not like its tendency to use small roads for routes, but you can pretty easily override that. Naturally, it uses bandwidth on your phone, so it is not free, but if you factor in the cost of that versus paying for a traffic service via GPS, it may be close to equal. Plus, no initial $200-$300 cash outlay provided you already have a smartphone.
