    Default little puddle

ok, this is surely a simple thing, of some kind of cosmic splash of water.
Passenger side front corner of my 2006 XC70 Cross country. A small puddle keeps appearing. It only seems to appear at work. My morning commute is one block. When I looked up under the front of the car there is water on the front plastic piece, below the radiator hose.

Which is not leaking. I am not losing any fluids and it is water, not antifreeze, under the car. No, the air conditioning is not running.

I'm going to start paying real close attention to it now. Its only been a couple days now.

As far as I can tell, I can see nothing that could be causing this.

The AC is ALWAYS running, unless you specifically turn it off.

    Has it rained recently?

Does it ever happen after trips longer than your one block morning commute? Could it simply be condensation?

I'm thinking it has to be a condensation build up of some sort. Went on a 300 mile road trip today to visit our granddaughter and no puddle at any stop. It hasn't rained in over a week either. I'm wondering if there isn't a pocket that drains slow and maybe filling up due to a sprinkler? Just thought of that one.

Volvo didn't play around covering up the under carriage did they? Guess I need to go see how to change the oil now too! lol

    I'll figure this one out!!

Do you park on an incline? A slight angle that allows water to collect on your previous drive?

I think it's your AC. It's running on your short drive, it's always running, and you're by the Bay, where it's humid, so you're getting condensation.

Oh, and exactly 50 minutes after you park, you'll hear the AC blower running to clear the AC. It's designed to do that.

So that's the AC blower coming on? I thought it was weird the engine fan was kicking on. lol So, even when the auto function is off and the AC (I think) is off, it is running anyway? Of course it is spinning so why not? It's possible, but when I do run the AC its drain spot is in a different place, but this does make sense. Especially with a short drive.

Here is an example of the location of the puddle. This was at 1:30 this afternoon and had not driven the car since 6 the night before. I went for about a 10 mile drive and no puddle when I came out. lol

    This is a trip!!

    Hmm...

That looks to be right under the washer fluid reservoir...how's the washer fluid level?

Agreed. Look specifically where the headlamp washer pump is inserted into a grommet in the washer fluid tank. That's a fair size fitting where even a slight leak could easily make a puddle like this over night. Also possible for the pump to crack and leak as well since its location is on the bottom of the tank.

Another more remote possibility and really only possible if the clamp on the coolant tank overflow line has been changed, is a leak at the coolant tank where the overflow line is attached. Its a tight fit for a regular screw-type clamp and when pressure is on the system you can get a slight leak there. The coolant then runs down the inner fender and ends up dropping just about where the pic shows the puddle. When I had this happen, it would only do it during cool down not when running.

    Good Luck,
