Although there are no more details about the Volvo VEA series engine. However, according to vice president of Volvo DerekCrabb content in a media interview a little time so we can get some circumstances, he said the new four-cylinder engine than the cash the six-cylinder engine has higher performance and better fuel economy. Also learned , this new engine will be the first VEA series is expected to carry the new generation of Volvo XC60 car body, so a new generation of Volvo XC60 will probably come from the first model SPA platform.

I appreciate that these new VEA engines (now called Drive-E) may be news in China but they have been available in the 60, 70 & 80 series Volvos in Europe since late 2013 and in the US since earlier this year. Refer to any European Volvo website or the international Volvo website : http://www.volvocars.com/intl/Pages/default.aspx

One important aspect about these new engines to keep in mind is that at present they are only available as FWD only. In most markets any existing AWD models (notably the I6 T6) will continue. None of the new Drive-E engines will be available in AWD until each Volvo model is progressively moved over to Volvo's new SPA platform in order of age over the next 2-3 years. The first model on the new platform will be the new XC90 to be released late this year. It is likely that the next model to be moved over to the new platform is the 70 & 80 series models (ie the V70, XC70 & S80) in 2015. Being the youngest of the 60,70 & 80 series Volvos it is not likely that the 60 series Volvos (S60, V60 & XC60) will not moved over to the new platform until 2016. The newest Volvo V40 model will not be moved over to a new smaller platform (in a joint venture with Geely) until 2017.
