I went on resources and step by step dropped the exhaust, unbolted everything, folded the shafts down at the u-joint. The front slid out nice but the back does not slide out. Is there something I didn't do or do I have to beat it out ? Thanks.

I assume you have removed the 6 bolts that attached the prop shaft to the VC(01-02)/Haldex(03-07). It is likely just rusted on given you are in Michigan. I have a west coast never driven in salted road car and I had to give it a good tap to knock loose the rust.

Yes Howard, I removed the six in the back. the flange separated and the shaft moves out an inch or so and stops. I used a long block of wood from the rear end and gave it a few good whacks and it still doesn't go.Seems like it should slide right off.
What year is this car? I know for sure 01-02 looks like the picture below on both ends. Just attached by the 6 bolts on both ends.
Inside this CV, an internal shaft can move lengthwise along a splined connection but it will be stopped by a circlip. Perhaps you are feeling the internal shaft moving inside the CV while the cupped end of the CV is still rusted on?
I don't know what 03-07s prop shaft look like. I thought they are pretty similar with a CV on both ends.

O.K. Howard, I saw this pic on another one of your threads. I split that bearing cup open thinking it was the same as the front. the back side of the cup is froze in there. I'll slip the cover back up tight so I don't lose the bearings.
It is a late production 01 has the 02 dim.
Do you have any suggestions on how to get that out. WD, heat ? Thanks for the pic and the help!
Ole
I had similar situation, and it forced me to make changes to my procedure.
This is what you can do.
In addition to six screw holes there is another 10mm hole on the VC flange. Look from the back of VC, the screwed on end.
Spray pb blaster, let it sit, then tap it out gently. Do not use heat.

I'll spray it first thing in the morning and let it sit for a while. Didn't think heat would be good with all that grease.
After you pull it off, might want to open up the cup on the CV to make sure the rubber seal is sitting where it suppose to be then reassemble it.
To reassemble the cup, Volvo directions calls for using 4 of the bolts you took off along with 2 of the washers and purchase 4 nuts that fits the bolts to squeeze it all together. The 2 pairs of bolts/nuts should be 180 degrees from each other. You can see the 4 nuts I bought sitting on the paper towel in the picture below. There is also a vent pin hole in the center of the cup that might squeeze out a grease tail during reassembly.
By the way, why are you pulling the prop shaft? Is the front CV causing a ping noise? Thats what happened to me

I've been getting a ping noise for a while and has started vibrating. I found a prop with 100k on ebay for $200.00 So I jumped on it. I thought I would start there. I figure the drive shaft has close to 200k on it. I really appreciate the help with this. I was rolling around the floor for three hours, tugging, pushing, pounding. Rough day.
I know the feeling ole.
It took three days, and hours on the cold floor after which I saw slight move. By design, the twist of cup helps it move out. Lubricating one drop at a time, use gradual pressure not force, or poke.
Be patient, be safe.
This job is best under a lift. My left shoulder joint pains a little.
