Default 2004 XC70 - oil leak from turbo?

I have a 2004 XC70 2.5 T5 and I have noticed that the hose coming from the turbo over the engine is soaked in oil at the end of the tube by the radiator which I am assuming is where the intercooler is??
Anyways, performance is normal, but does lose oil--it does not drip though, but after I cleaned it and it became soaked after a few weeks again. Any thoughts on what could be happening?

This pipe is known as the (turbo) boost pipe and I have seen the "sweating" as you describe it on my XC70 as well as two other turbo Volvos (both S60's) ... Only cure is to replace the pipe. My mechanic tells me that the heat causes the pipe to become porous and the result is this "sweating"

I've noticed that IPD now sells this pipe for our cars...interesting...they only stock stuff that they see demand for, so you must not be the only one...

ID:	4574 Here are a couple of pictures. The tube going across does not leak nor is oily, but the end pieces at the turbo and the intercooler (i think) are, like pierreC mentioned, sweating. I am worried it is loosing oil. I do check it every week though.

My '04 looked exactly the same. The pipe going into the throttle body was also "sweating" oil. Ordered the IPD silicone replacements (in spiffy blue color) and all is well. Highly Reccomended!
The fresh air pipe into the turbo from the air box was actually leaking (not just sweating) oil at the turbo connection as well. It seems to be a combination of heat and places in these pipes where residual oil tends to pool when at rest. It stays hot, turns to sludge, and becomes a "penetrating oil" kind of gunk. SNABB performance parts seems to have a lock on selling the fresh air intake tube (also in snazzy blue silicone, with a chrome main pipe where the PTC and vacuum hoses attach to brass nipples) the price is a little high, but I bit, since I replaced all the vac hoses with blue silicone at the same time.
I know- seems a bit fastidious since I was only losing trace amounts of oil between changes, but my engine compartment is now leak and goop free (for now)!

Pretty normal looking they all tend to do that. Like said before get the IPD blue silicone lines, they look great and seem to build boost quicker and will last for a long long time

This is the intake pipe...any oil in it is already "lost" so, you're not "Loosing" (losing?) any more or less oil if it's seeping through the hose....the oil should be in the engine...once it's in the intake tract, as this oil clearly is, it's escaped from the engine through the turbo oil seal and the next stop is is the combustion chambers, where it gets burned...

The real risk here is that the oil will cause the pipe to slip off and you lose the integrity of the intake tract - unmetered air goes into the engine, causing it to go into limp home mode and there will be no boost...

    Default Makes sense

Makes sense, so having a look at the turbo (and replacing the oil seal) will be the thing to do. Thanks for the typo remark, I guess is not lost; it is "loose" as in everywhere around the area, loose oil.

Honestly? I wouldn't look at doing anything to the turbo unless/until the oil consumption got to more than 1 QT every 1,000 miles...at that level, you've got a problem...

But just because you see a few ounces on the pipe doesn't mean that you're losing more than a few ounces every thousand miles...all seals leak to some degree...if your oil level stays good for a few thousand miles, then don't worry.

Case in point: my XC uses a quart every 5,000 or so miles, so I top it off. It has some oil deposits on the intake pipe on the inside (saw them and cleaned them when I did the ETM). Why would I spend thousands of $$ to fix that tiny bit of leaking oil? In the next, oh, 100,000 miles, if I add 1 QT every oil change, (not every 5,000 because it gets changed before the 2nd quart is burned), then I have added 12 quarts. Even at retail prices for synthetic oil, that's less than $100...so why should I try fix that tiny bit of seepage? It makes no sense...attemtping to fix what doesn't need fixing is OCD...

I like a clean driveway, and a gunk free engine compartment is a joy to work on.
Taking care of a leak, however small, is peace of mind. Those sweating pipes are getting weak.
Yes, I'm a little obsessive about my XC, but isn't everyone who checks this forum daily?
