Default 02 xc70 wont start - possible cracked wire along steering column?

Folks, I did some searches and did not come across anything that matches my problem.

02 v70xc awd. Battery is about 1½ years old. Alternator replaced about 1 year ago and had wire repaired to alternator.

Turn key, hear relay and fuel pressurize - engine will not turn over. Try my other key and same result. Moved my steering wheel to upper most position and car started. This is intermittent. When the engine wont turn over, I move the steering wheel up and down and/or in and out and then car starts. I suspect a cracked wire in ignition circuit going to ignition switch somewhere in the steering column since moving the steering wheel always works, so far!, but you know this wont last forever.

This happens hot or cold there is no pattern.

Also, once started you can move the steering wheel to your preferred position and engine stays running.

    Any thoughts?

Can you remove the lower covering and grab the wiring with the column in the start position, work the wiring while you crank, if it won't start, it's a wiring issue, if it starts while working the wiring, it's a bad ignition switch.
