    Default Removing MAF sensor

I am trying to clean the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor and to get at it, I need to take it off the car. The directions in the resources section say to just "Remove the pipe between the air cleaner (ACL) and the turbo / throttle body at the mass air flow(MAF) sensor."

Easier said than done. I cannot get the MAF off the pipe or visa versa. What is the trick? The MAF rotates inside the pipe and the hose clamp is removed, but I won't come out. I can't even get something in there to pry it off. Any suggestions?

Some other post said cleaning this thing is 10 Mins hood up to hood down. I think some of these time estimates are just plain silly. 10 Mins? really? I have to call BS on that.

    thanks for the suggestions,

    Keith

What I did was twist the MAF at an angle and pull HARD. Hope this helps!

Apply more force. It does clip off.

Here are a bunch of pics of MAF removed so you can see what is behind it. Just a simple green o-ring that holds MAF to the pipe. Twist and pull should loosen that o-ring. I believe first time removal after many years requires more force.

By the way, on the security screw, I've seen 6 points and 5 points. I have a 6 point in my security bit kit but not 5. Another way to take it off is to use a dremel disk to cut a line across it for a flat head screw driver.

If you want to remove the whole pipe from the airbox and turbo intake pipe. A good way is to use a heat gun to heat up the fitting a little bit (don't hold it so long to melt things). I usually remove the turbo intake pipe side first.

Removing the screw and MAF is the easiest. No need to remove the pipe. Even if you remove the pipe, still need to get the MAF off to clean it because there is a mesh in the pipe that prevents spray nozzle from reaching the MAF element.

I didnt even think about doing that!!! Great tip, now I can actually clean the MAF vs hosing it down with cleaner.

Just remove the security torx screws and take the MAF sensor out, much easier and effective to clean the sensor out of the housing anyway. I have this security torx set from Amazon, it's ridiculous how often you find security bolts, even in my vacuum cleaner for goodness sake!
