Question 2003 xc 90 rear driveshaft removal question

First time working on my xc90 and I didn't find any answers searching google/this site.

I have a bad rear driveshaft that I was going to remove to send in and be rebuilt. Is it safe to remove the driveshaft and drive the car as a FWD? There were some threads regarding xc70's that said it would work, just didn't know if it was different for xc90's.

    car is an 2003 xc90 t6

Also, if anyone knows of any threads covering the removal - installation it would be helpful as well.

    Thanks!

You can drive it with no driveshaft but it will have front wheel spin much more reasily and torque steer will be much worse.
Loosen both ends by undoing the 6 bolts and then find the center support bearing and undo the two bolts for it. I think you can get to them without removing the heat shield. IF not, loosen the heat shield and at least move it or if you must, remove it.

    Who is rebuilding it?
    Colorado Driveshaft usually does exchange.

Thanks for the info, some other posts were talking about having to pull a fuse or whatever to "fool" the ABS system. My local independent recommended a driveshaft place - I think it was Colorado Driveshaft. I was under the impression that they rebuild it, but I may have been mistaken. Exchange would be easier - I could just do the swap and not worry about it. I'll let you know how it goes.
