XC90 5 years on, lower torque rod and oil pump seal

Hello,

Just had my 5 year service on my 2007 D5 XC 90 here in OZ.

My wife, children and I love the car.

However on my last service visit the mechanic advised that he noticed a small oil leak from the oil pump and quoted AU$755 to change the oil pump seal to do the work. In addition to that they recommended that the lower torque rod mount be replaced as well and quoted AU$261.

The car has only done 59950km and was a bit shocked to hear this news. However I don't have any oil stains on the floor of my garage.

I asked if this hampered my ability to drive the car long distance on a road triop and he replied no.

So I am a bit puzzled if this a major item or if it is simply a ploy for me to return back to that mechanic.

Is this the start of a suite of problems?

No,it is not. A 5 years old XC90 should not be doing this if it has been well taken care of. What I would do is to take it to another trusted mechanic, see what he has to say.

Hi - I am in Oz as well and have a 2006 XC90 AWD and have been driving Volvo for over 30 years. I have found that from the time Ford took a financial interest in the brand both quality and reliability fell off considerably with Volvo Australia not wanting to know about some issues with its vehicles. As for your problems I would not have expected them to arise with such low mileage and agree that a second opinion be sought from a reputable Volvo mechanic and not necessarily a franchised dealer. As for doing the job yourself - that is something that I would not recommend unless you are very skilled mechanically with access to specialised tools that may be required. You indicate that there is no oil on your garage floor - however is there any oil on or in any are underneath the vehicle.

looking under the car there doesn't appear to be oil trickle on any part of the car. around the drainage slots of the stone guard is the usual grime, where the ac condensate drains through. I have tried to take a picture of the area. I will get second opinion and keep an eye on the oil level.

does any one have a diagram showing where the mounts are and the oil pump, it would be useful to navigate better under the car?
