Default 2002 v70xc has no heat

Sorry if this is a repeat, but could not find anything doing a search. I have a 2002 v70xc with 97k miles. Today, the heater stopped working. Its has dual auto temp control and both sides has only cool/cold air blowing out regardless of how temp is set, all the way to max. Outside temp was 50 to 72 today. Car temp gauge appears to be working normally, car is running smooth on highways and city driving today. Looked for coolant issue but nothing. Car is not overheating.

Actually used the ac today and did get gold air. Just cant seem to get any hot air what so ever. Any ideas?

Maybe jammed electronic climate control temperature fan (behind the 3 slits on it), put your ears up really close and see if you hear any high spin sound.

More info at this link. Search for ECC has no heat.

When this happened to me, setting temp control to MAX brought the heat back so not sure if it is your problem. Anyhow, start by listening for the fan's operation.

    Default Thanks for the response

Will try the prcedure later today but one more thing, heard a ticking noise in the vent the day before this occurred. Suspect somehow the "shutter" from the engine is stuck. Am getting ac and can chage fan speed. Just no heat in any of the channels, top, front, foot, or rear vents.

That ticking noise is probably from the electromechanical actuators and/or the shutters it is moving. I think Volvo's VIDA/DiCE diagnostic tool can read these actuators as well as recalibrate them. Might try to find one to use to go to the dealer.

    Default Independent Mechanic Quote

Brought it into my mechanic for a look and quote. They say they were able to obtain the fault codes (there were a lot and I dont have the details yet), but that the head unit had failed. They are are quoting me a repair cost of 1375... yes $1,375. I think thats pretty outrageous. I am planning to bring the car into the dealer for them to diagnose given the sum.

Anyone have any more thoughts on this? Thanks!

Ask the dealer service if they believe the CCM can be revived by software reload given the current fault codes. Although they might not promise you a fix other than guaranteeing a fix with a full replacement.

    Default Mechanic quote

So i get to the independent garage and talk to the owner and mechanic. they provide me will all the faults codes ccm0017, ccmoo21, ccm0011, ccm0012, ccm0014, ccm0012, ccm0014, ccm0018' ccm0019... looks like everything! They tell me they tried to load the new software to reboot but the ccm was totally dead. then they restored/reloaded the original software and its back in "limp" mode. used one is not viable since ccm is vin specific and they are quoting me 1000 for the unit and 375 for labor.

does anything sound suspicious or would you do anything differently? i can bring it to the dealership for the 2nd opinion but what say you?

also, am told the timing belt and wp need to be replaced for 1100, parts and labor. any thoughts on that as well?

this is getting to be a pretty spendy week. thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Here is a link on all these codes for you

    http://www.ppc-diagnostic.com/codes/eCCM/

Sounds like they tried everything already. Part price seems about retail. $375 for labor seems high. Replacement should be under an hour and loading software and reprogram/recalibrate is probably less an hour. You might ask them how long it will take and see if that adds up to $375 factoring their hourly rate.
