Yeah...have to say, that is odd...my 850 had its original pump at 185K...and both my current cars have the OE pump...but I've been very careful to use only the Volvo BG coolant...figuring that it has worked well pump longevity and saving $10 on coolant is not worth having to change that pump...did you stick with the Volvo coolant? Just curious...

Volvo never had a service interval listed for the WP on white engines.
The diesels used a water pump you moved to tension t belt and you had to remove pump to replace seal when you did belts as cleaning block face was always needed. The seal was about 1/2 the price of pump and we often saw pumps fail before the second belt interval. So WP's always got changed on those.
Due to short life WP on so many engines with t belt driven pumps the practice became widespread even on engines with very long WP life.

Yes i always used the Volvo coolant, but the first WP that i put was not a Volvo part, so now the car is on 3rd one (including the one came from factory)

Last week my Volvo delear change in my XC70 D5 ( DIESEL ) all the belt and all the timing kit includeed water pump. In Italy all Volvo delear include water pump because is very important and is cheap too.
630 euros for timing belt kit all included.
    Regretting :

I did the water pump on mine, even though it would likely be ok. The cost of the pump is less then the cost of the labor/hassel to redo it if it goes bad before the next t-belt change.

I also got the car second hand, so did not have a full service history on it, which also played a role in my choice.
