    Default ABS / TRACS lights

The ABS light randomly comes on. It will reset sometimes. And now randomly the ABS system activates for no reason. I can hear the twanging sound and feel it in the pedal. At times this happens even when the brakes aren't activated- just driving straight down the road. This is on dry pavement, clean road, etc. No apparent reason. Any ideas what's going on and how much will this cost to fix? Could this be serious at freeway speeds? This might be the end of the road for this one....

A rebuild is now down to 60 bucks
    Matt does them for that.
(This is how they fail, a little at a time, on and off until the light just stays on permanently)

The dealership wanted $915 to replace the control module. Seems a bit steep?!!! How tough is it do?

Here is a link to Victor Rocha's instructions for removing the ABS/TRACs module. Victor does a great job repairing and upgrading the module.

My '99 is having the same problem, ABS/TRACS light will come on intermittently, cruise control will stop working (usually after the ABS/TRACS light comes on), and recently the cluster blanked out (while my wife was on the interstate, no less, mildly freaked her out).
I need to have mine rebuilt, but I have a question (probably for JRL): Once the module is out, is the car drivable (once all the intake is reassembled) or does it have to be parked?

    Yes it is but...
You will have no speedometer, no cruise control and of course no ABS at all.
You should cover the ends with a baggie while it's out being repaired but in the summer you don't have to, it's just a general good idea to do so.

Trust me, Matt (email above) is very good and at $60 by FAR the cheapest.
He has done three modules for me now and all have been good rebuilds

Thanks, I'll contact Matt. Every day another light comes on on the dash, the wife is getting a little, let's say, concerned.

I emailed Matt, he responded in about 10 minutes.
He sent me the link to his website:

    https://www.midwest-abs.com/ABS_Modules.php

He has an exchange service for our modules, at $89 shipped. He ships you a good module (and an E-5 Torx socket as a loaner), you send him your old one as a core (no downtime for the repair).
As an alternative, you can send him your module, he'll rebuild it, and send it back for $50 (includes return shipping), but you'll be without a speedo and cruise control while it's out.
In both cases, you're responsible for shipping his direction.

    Gonna order mine tonight.
