Default Help! Snake in my dash/vent system....

For real. I know it sounds like a Click and Clack story or something. But I had a snake (a rat snake to be exact - pretty good size, about five feet long) in a cage in my car (2001 XC wagon) and he got out, and I can now hear him up in my dash area moving around.

This just happened a few hours ago.

Questions: mainly, what the heck should I do? I'm think he could've entered through the vent entry above and to the right of the pedal area (pretty big entry hole there). That is my heating cooling vent, right?

Can he get out through the engine compartment? Is he going to get shredded by a fan?

I'm hoping he'll just meander out back into the cabin area during the day to get some sun.

Anything I can do to get him outta there?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!!!

    Thanks...

Well, it is night time now (almost 11 EST), so I guess he's just going to spend the night out there. I'm just hoping he doesn't make his way out during the middle of the night. Got to sleep, y'know (work in the morning, etc)

I guess I'll try the mouse "lure" tomorrow if he's staying hidden. I drove an hour ago, so the engine is still probably nice and warm, but it will get cold tonight, and he won't be happy. I'd think he'd come out for some sun during the day...

But does anyone know if the vents allow him to leave easily? Can he just slither right out and not be there tomorrow?

    Thanks

I can't believe you are so calm about losing a snake IN (literaly) your car.

As for the case of him getting out, the vent system is pretty sealed. Otherwise air would flow freely back there. This also means he has to back out, unable to turn around. I have never seen a snake move backwards, so good luck with that
