Requires a VADIS/VIDA hookup to change the settings for the DRL. Question is why?

I believe up to MY 2000, you could turn off the DRL with a twist on the screw on the headlights switch.

    2001 and newer, nooooooooooooo.

2001 and newer has to be done at the dealer.
Takes 3 minutes, no software required but it must be hooked up to VIDA

    Also seat heater adjustment
Mirror adjustment is NOT software, just an adjustment like the others

I think he is referring to the three different "dimming" settings available if you have the software load to do that. By default, it is not provided and you have to get it under a different software part number.

NO.... YOU... DON'T! IT'S NOT SOFTWARE

Stop telling the guy (and anyone else who may be reading this

None of these adjustment require software, they're just adjustments in VIDA
I always have them done for free

BS! Do the frickin' research. And I quote:

"* The rear view mirror has an automatic anti-glare function which can be adjusted to three levels:
    * Light * Normal * Dark. * Software is required for these settings. * The anti-dazzle setting is programmed via the vehicle communication socket."

This is the text within the "Programmable Customer Parameters" documentation contained within this site in the Resources section. In addition, the software, according to VIDA, is labeled "Auto dimming control appl" with a PN of 9499432.

I don't BS in this site like some. What I state in any thread is based upon my own personal experience and/or documented proof coming from the version of VADIS or VIDA that I have access to. I so state that typically and should anything be based on any other sources I will mention those as well. In other words, I'm not pulling this stuff out of my arse.

In your cases, JRL, perhaps you have just been fortunate that the cars you've "done for free" have already had the software loaded allowing you to merely change the settings, but I know in the case of my particular car it was not there and the settings could not be done as the car sat.

    Cheers,

Look, There's no point into arguing about this, what you are reading is a MISPRINT.
I can't tell you how many P2 cars I've had adjusted (20-30-50, I really don't know over the years), and there is no software required.

Everytime I buy a P2 Volvo, either for myself (which each one always gets adjusted), or for resale, (which if it needs to go on the machine, then I do these adjustments), it gets done.
Most of the time I stand there while my guy does it and trust me, NO software.

If there was, believe me I would be charged for it, software is not free!
While I may get these things done for no labor charges, [U]software would automatically be charged, if there is/was some required software, to my account.
