Default Message center doesn't work anymore

Yesterday I took the car and the message center was displaying unreadeable messages (mixed characters). Today I only see a backlight when I turn the button. I tried to reset it with the trip button method, the lock/unlock method and I finally unhooked the battery for 15 minutes and plugged it back (with the key in position II) with no success.

Anybody have an idea on how to reset the module responsible of the message center or do I need to take a trip to the dealer?

What does the acronym DIM mean?

Do some research on the Net on this subject. In particular, try this site (http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/index.php). Although in the UK there is actually an outfit that can repair Volvo DIMs, on this site there are a few folks who say you can replace your DIM with a used one. This type of replacement, which is significantly cheaper than an OEM replacement, requires you to match up the numbers that are on your DIM with those on the used one so a patient trip to a junkyard or a thorough search on eBay will be required and there are some issues around displayed mileage which may/or may not display themselves dependent upon the particulars of the combination of the used DIM and your engine ECU.

Anyway, it might be worth it since a new DIM is supposed to be around $1000 versus used ones that go around $100-200 or so.

    Good luck,

I wonder if there might be some s**t built up inside the scroll wheel causing intermittent contact....after all it is a switch.
