    Ah, but the trick is to find someone who knows where all these bits and bobs go and can do a proper job at it. And I've read that in trannys with a fair number of miles a particular portion of the case can be heavily worn, requiring some kind of extra-ordinary work.

    As was said above, so?
    These are VERY hard transmissions to rebuild.
    The shop around here that does these may be one of 5 or 10 shops in the entire country who have rebuilt several AW-55s successfully.
    The first 3 or 4 they did were disasters and I should know, one of those was mine!

    Now 3 years later, they're knocking them out with excellent results but they have learned the "tricks" of this transmission and have in stock the correct parts.
