04XC Rear Bumper Question

I have an 04XC and would like to add the silver "rear skid plate" that some XCs have in the center of the rear bumper. I don't know if it is a model year change or if it can be added without too much difficulty/expense. My car has a silver plate on the front, but not the back and I haven't been able to find the rear plate as an accessory. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've considered adding the 'rear skid plate' to my '04 as well. Or at least, I did when it was newer and less in need of repair.

Anyway, that part should still be available - I think there were 2 versions - 1 with the cut-out for the trailer hitch and 1 without.

When I was seriously considering it, it looked like an easy installation.

Called the local dealer. Part only is $140 USD and part installed is $215 USD. I don't think that's too bad so will probably do. Thanks all for the input.

01-04 there is a true aluminuim plate that can be added.

05-07 on the bumper itself there is some gray painted on plastic that can only be used on the 05+ bumpers

NOT true!
I put one on my 01 XC in 2002 (off a 2002 Ocean Race edition) and it's PLASTIC
