Whoa there pard. 3309 transmission fluid was not used until the transmissions were changed by Volvo from 4-speed to 5-speed. I'm not saying 3309 will not be fine in a 4-speed 98 transmission (it may or may not be, I don't know), but the OP should investigate further before simply replacing his recommended fluid with 3309. I've seen no evidence that 3309 has become a universal ATF with backwards compatibility for all transmissions.
