    Default Hitch & Rust

So I recently acquired an XC90, and had a Volvo hitch installed by the selling Volvo dealer. Then I noticed some rust spreading out from between the hitch and the frame. I reported the issue to the dealer, who finds it normal and recommends that nothing be done about it.

My concern is that rust keeps spreading if untreated, and since the frame is obviously a structural component this may compromise the vehicle safety at some point, and safety is of course the #1 reason why I bought a Volvo.

So I'd like to know, among those who also have hitches, if you have the same kind of rust, and have tried to do anything about it.

Thanks dmd, but to be clearer, my question was more if it is "normal" for rust to develop around the hitch mountings, based on others' experiences.

All depends on where you live.... Snow and salt will make rust. Here in TX it
would not bee seen, in ND the whole car would be rust.

Normal or not, the dealer wont do anything about it per your post. May just be some
rust on a washer. Either way, get it painted to correct it.
