    Default Steering Rack

All track rod ends etc are sound as are bearings but I get a little bit (like 4 or 5 mm) of play when I move the steering wheel.

The car has 200K miles on the clock. Is this the whole steering rack that needs replacing or am I able to repair it more cheaply?

    Thanks

Did you check the inner rod ends? That is, the ones at the ends of the rack? Also check the u-joint in the steering shaft between the wheel and the rack for slop. If all that checks out then, yes, the wear is all in the rack itself. Have you checked out the costs of a rebuilt rack? I haven't ever gone that way, but the price is significantly cheaper than OEM new.

    Good luck,
